Tyres and More supports Fatality Free Friday, the campaign for a fatality-free day on Australia's roads highlighting road safety awareness. We’re using our network of almost 80 stores across Australia to spread the safety message to drivers while helping to make their cars safer.
Why Fatality Free Friday?
Each year, around 1600 people die on Australia’s roads. By far the most dangerous days - those which statistically suffer the most deaths - are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Road safety is a complex issue. Tyres & More and the organisers of Fatality Free Friday believe that if drivers consciously think about road safety and safe driving for just one Friday in the year, that day’s toll - statistically about 5.3 deaths - could be reduced to zero.
That’s the aim. Not a single road death in Australia for just one day. Just one Fatality Free Friday.
And we further hope that by making people think about staying alive on the road on one Friday, they’ll drive safer for the next few days too and reduce the traditionally high weekend fatality rate.
Who knows? Perhaps drivers can keep thinking safety each and every Friday and we won’t just save 5 or 6 lives but many more.
How Tyres and More is Helping
Tyres & More is proud to partner with Fatality Free Friday to promote road safety by highlighting vehicle maintenance and driver awareness.
To do this, Tyres & More stores nationwide are donating their time on Fatality Free Friday, 22 May 2009, to conduct a Free National Safety Check.
This check includes crucial safety items like tyres, brakes, lights, seat belts and, most importantly, child restraint fitment.
A recent safety check at a Brisbane Tyres & More store discovered that 38 out of 40 child restraints were incorrectly fitted. A daunting community rate when, according to KIDSAFE QLD, the single biggest cause of death and injury to children in Australia is road accidents. Road trauma specifically accounts for 40% of childhood deaths. Fortunately, it’s not all bad news. KIDSAFE WA have noted that a correctly fitted child car restraint, appropriate for the child’s size and weight, can reduce the risk of serious injury or death in road crashes by up to 70%.
Families everywhere need look no further as Tyres & More is Australia’s largest network of qualified child restraint fitters. All stores boast training by Mobility Engineering Australia and the Australian Child Restraint Resource Initiative.
Make the right choice for your children. Please find out if your car is unsafe. On Fatality Free Friday, May 22, get a free safety check at your local Tyres & More store.
