It’s essential that you get to know your car well and check it regularly for any required maintenance. Take our quiz to find out how much you know!
Here are some key things to keep an eye on…
Tread Depth
The legal minimum requirement for tyre tread in Australia is 1.5mm. Make sure you check your tyres every 2-4 weeks for signs of wear, or come into Tyres & More for a free check by our experts.
Wet Weather Driving
Stopping distances double in wet weather. The recommended following distance behind another car is usually 2 seconds. Remember it’s 4 seconds when it is raining. Also make sure your brakes are tested regularly, and you are using a tyre which has been formulated for better wet weather grip, such as the Yokohama BluEarth AE50.
Don’t Put Your Car Under Pressure
Under-inflated or over-inflated tyres can both be problematic, impacting steering and car stability, plus the ability of the tyre to tackle hazards such as potholes. Your manufacturer's guide will contain the recommended PSI (Pressure) for your vehicle.
Only check tyre pressure when they are completely cold and you are in a safe place. The air pressure within tyres temporarily rises with heat, resulting in an inaccurate reading.
Change Your Engine Oil Regularly
Over time, engine oil breaks down and becomes contaminated with dirt and debris. We recommend you change the oil every 6 months, or 5000km. Whichever comes first!
Get Balanced!
Check your wheel alignment regularly. Poor wheel alignment can cause a number of issues when driving, including a reduction in control and irregular tyre wear.
Another tip is to replace tyres in fours. This ensures all four tyres are of an equal quality, age, brand, size and condition.
Rotate tyres for even wear. Tyre rotation is essential to ensure even wear and should be carried out regularly. Driving on mismatched tyres can greatly impair your driving experience and safety.
If you’re in any doubt about the above, get your tyres checked by a specialist. The experts at Tyres & More will be able to perform a tyre check, free of charge!
