Easter is almost upon us! It’s that wonderful time of the year when Australians take a break and hit the road to celebrate interstate with friends and family; or perhaps a long weekend down a winding coastal path.

With so many cars on the road over the holiday period, there is an increased risk of being involved in an accident. Over the last few decades, the Road Safety Commission and the Police have been taking serious measures to decrease this risk, which has led to a significant drop in annual fatalities since the 80s.

Any Fatality is One Too Many.

Australian Police will be out in force over the 2018 Easter long weekend, and will be combating the following major causes of accidents and injury with double demerit points:

  • Speeding

  • Drink or drug driving

  • Failing to wear a seat belt

  • Using a mobile phone while driving

  • Running a red light

Stop. Rest. Revive.

Another underlying cause of the road toll is driver fatigue on road trips. Do not take unnecessary risks. Make sure you take proper rest stops and pull over for a nap if you’re tired.

Be Alert for Changing Conditions

Another major cause of accidents is wet weather conditions. If it’s raining, make sure you leave extra distance between your vehicle and the one in front, as needing to stop quickly can take longer in the wet.

You might also like to consider a tyre which has been developed for slippery conditions, such as the Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50. It was developed by Yokohama’s engineers to combine exceptional manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency with superb wet performance. It has a reduced braking distance while maintaining a high level of grip.

To help travellers update their car, Yokohama are offering an Easter special of buy three tyres, get one free. Available at your local Tyres & More, the sale will run until the end of April 2018.

Get a Complete Safety Examination

Before you hit the road, get a free safety examination at your local Tyres & More. We’ll make sure the brake pads are in good nick, change the oil and even properly install child (or pet) restraints!

Have a lovely Easter - and drive safely!
