Baby Seat and Child Safety Seat Fitting
Keeping our kids safe in the car is non-negotiable. While every parent does their best to buckle their little ones in properly, getting your child restraint or car seat professionally fitted can make a world of difference to their safety and your peace of mind.
Australia has clear laws around child restraints; kids must be in the right restraint for their age and size, and it must be installed correctly. It sounds simple, but studies show that a huge number of child seats are installed incorrectly, which can seriously reduce their protection in a crash.
That’s where a proper restraint fitting comes in. At Tyres & More, our accredited fitting station team knows exactly how to set up your car seat so it works as it’s meant to. We check anchor points, seat angles, harness tension and positioning, and make sure the restraint suits your child right now – because kids grow fast, and a seat that fit perfectly last year might not be doing the job today.
Here’s what a professional check or fitting can help you with:
Choosing the right seat for a child's age and size
The rules are simple: a rear-facing child car seat is mandatory for babies up to 6 months old and recommended until they are 30 months. From 6 months to 4 years, you can use either a rear or forward-facing seat. After that, kids move into an approved forward-facing car seat or a harnessed booster, until they’re tall enough for an adult seatbelt.
If you’re unsure, a Tyres & More fitter can help check that your child is in the right seat and that it actually fits correctly.
Securing the seat
A restraint is only as good as its installation. A professional restraint fitting makes sure the anchorage points, top tether and seat angle are all spot on and tightened correctly.
Getting the harness set up safely
We’ll adjust the harnesses so they’re snug, safe and comfortable. Flat straps, no twists, snug fit, correct height, small details that make a big difference in a crash.
Avoiding easy-to-miss mistakes
Loose buckles, leaning seats, non-approved accessories, twisted belts, shoulder straps in the wrong slot, they are all common, all fixable, all important.
We’ll even show you how to adjust and use the seat properly at home as your child grows. Most child car seats have shoulder-height markers to help you know if your little one still fits the seat the way they should.
If they’re a bit too small for the seat that matches their age, no stress, just keep them in their current seat until they hit the right height. On the flip side, if they’re starting to outgrow it, they can move up to the next level of child restraint or even a seatbelt when it’s safe to do so.
At the end of the day, when it comes to kids, “near enough” just doesn’t cut it. A properly fitted seat can make a massive difference in a crash and getting it set up right is one of the simplest, smartest ways to keep them safe.
If you’re unsure whether your child’s car seat is installed correctly, or you’d just like a professional to double-check it, we’re here to help.
