Tyre Puncture Repairs

We understand the inconvenience tyre punctures cause, so we try to make tyre repairs easy.

Call your nearest Tyres & More first. They may be able to change the tyre for you. You may be able to drop the tyre off and collect it later. Or, they can possibly send a mobile tyre fitter or emergency road service truck to the rescue.

If you've just noticed a flat tyre safety comes first.

If you can safely change the tyre, away from traffic do so. Avoid putting yourself at risk of a moving vehicle hitting you.

If safety is not an issue, avoid driving on the flat tyre. You may damage the tyre beyond repair. Unless it is a run flat tyre, drivers can only drive a short distance at reduced speed.

Before changing the tyre, check the spare tyre has air in it and is in working order. If it isn't don't bother changing it. Calling roadside service may be the only option. Or you can try calling your nearest Tyres & More store for options.

Remove the flat tyre and fit the spare tyre. If it's a full size spare, go to the nearest service station and check the pressure.

If your car has a temporary spare or space saver spare you should drive no more than 80kms. Keep the speed under 80 kmph. You should also check the air pressure. Then get the full size spare repaired as soon as possible.
Tyres with slow leaks.

If you’ve noticed a slow leak or a nail stuck in the tread top the air up and come in to Tyres & More. It can be difficult to detect slow leaks. We often have to submerge the tyre and wheel in water and look for bubbles.

Is your tyre repairable?

Not every tyre puncture can or should be repaired. At Tyres and More, we follow strict safety standards to assess whether your tyre repair is safe and legal.

A tyre can usually be repaired if:

  • The puncture is in the central tread area,
  • The hole is 6mm or smaller in diameter,
  • There’s no internal or sidewall damage and if
  • The tyre is not damaged.

A tyre cannot be safely repaired if:

  • The puncture is in the shoulder or sidewall,
  • There are multiple punctures close together,
  • The tyre shows signs of belt separation or impact damage,
  • It has previously had an unapproved plug-only repair,
  • The tread is worn below the legal minimum depth (1.5mm in Australia)

Tyre Repair Process

When you bring your vehicle to Tyres and More, our technicians inspect and test your tyre before beginning the repair. We use only industry-best practices as outlined by Australian Tyre Industry standards, including:

  • Remove the tyre from the rim for full inspection
  • Plug and patch from the inside, sealing both the injury and inner liner
  • Rebalance the wheel after repair for optimal performance
  • Pressure-check and refit to your vehicle

This process ensures your tyre repair is safe, long-lasting, and won't compromise the integrity of the tyre.

Tyre Repairs for SUVs & 4x4s

Puncture repairs for 4x4s and SUVs can be more expensive. The tyres are larger, heavier and their heavy duty constructions make the job more difficult.

We also understand that 4x4 tyres face tough conditions. This is often in the middle of nowhere and a flat tyre can leave you stranded. We make sure the puncture repair will be reliable.

All Tyres and More tyre shops perform puncture repairs.

All our stores perform puncture repairs on cars, SUVs and 4x4s. Some even perform repair on small tyres for ATVs as well as large truck tyres.

Find your nearest Tyres and More store and talk to them about your situation first. That way they can make the hassle of tyre repair as painless as possible.
